Fierce & Persistence: Who I am Beyond The Resume

I’m a practicing black belt in karate, a working mother, a published poet, and a passionate advocate for women in STEM. Whether I’m sparring on the mat, writing verses late at night, leading in tech, or mentoring future innovators, I bring discipline, ingenuity, and purpose to everything I do. Life is full, fierce, and beautifully focused with persistence—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Karate: A Journey of Discipline, Strength and Growth

Beenish is a 2nd-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and a licensed instructor with the Japan Karate Association (JKA). For her, karate is more than a martial art—it's a lifelong path to balance mind, body, and spirit. Through every kata and kihon, she discovers deeper self-awareness, sharper discipline, and the strength to grow beyond limits. As an instructor, she’s passionate about passing on this wisdom, helping others find confidence, focus, and purpose through the practice of karate.

Working Mother: Driven by Love, Fueled by Purpose

Beenish is a proud, dedicated mother who pours her heart into raising her children while thriving in a full-time career, training regularly as a karateka, and giving back through community volunteer work. Her family is her greatest source of strength, and every day she reflects on how she can be more present, more supportive, and more empowering to her kids—raising them to be kind, confident, and independent individuals ready to make the world a better place.

Her love for her children is boundless, and she’s often admired for climbing the career ladder while nurturing a strong, values-driven home. She doesn’t shy away from speaking the truth: work-life balance isn’t always picture-perfect, especially in the male-dominated world of engineering. Beenish openly shares the internal tug-of-war between ambition and motherhood—proving that while the path isn’t easy, it’s absolutely worth it. Her story is one of resilience, courage, and choosing purpose over perfection.

Beenish Zia is deeply committed to advocating for diversity in STEM and creating space for more women in technology. Through her own journey, she’s experienced the challenges firsthand—from the scarcity of female leaders in technical decision-making roles to the heightened pressure women face to constantly prove their credibility in male-dominated environments.

As a working mother, Beenish also became acutely aware of the systemic lack of support for birthing and breastfeeding mothers in the workplace—an issue she now actively raises awareness about. She combines her healthcare expertise and advocacy as Co-Chair of a Consumer Technology Association (CTA) workgroup focused on developing standards for women’s health, and leads the Women’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) at her company to mentor, uplift, and drive meaningful change.

Whether she's speaking at industry events, contributing to engineering societies, or mentoring the next generation, Beenish is determined to be the ripple that sparks a wave of inclusion, representation, and empowerment in STEM.

If you’re looking for mentorship, a speaker on women in tech, or just someone to share your journey with—Beenish would love to connect.
